Chuck D is known for his powerful rapping. ''How to Rap'' says he "has a powerful, resonant voice that is often acclaimed as one of the most distinct and impressive in hip-hop".<ref name="edwards"/>{{rp|248}} Chuck says this was based on listening to [[Melle Mel]] and sportscasters such as [[Marv Albert]].<ref name="edwards"/>{{rp|248}}
