Eight characters -- [[Chocobo]], [[Moogle|Mog]], Golem, Goblin, [[Final Fantasy character classes#Black Mage|Black Magician]], [[Final Fantasy character classes#White Mage|White Mage]], [[Chocobo|Chubby Chocobo]], and [[Recurring elements in the Final Fantasy series#Common elements|Behemoth]]—are immediately available, and additional, secret characters such as [[Cactuar]], [[Bahamut (Final Fantasy)|Bahamut]], [[Cloud Strife|Cloud]], [[Aya Brea|Aya]], and [[Squall Leonhart|Squall]] may be unlocked after completing Story Mode.<ref name="characters"/>
