The population density was 1,334.9 per square mile (514.9/km{{sup|2}}). There were 2,603 housing units at an average density of 667.4 per square mile (257.5/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 82.37% (4,288) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 3.07% (160) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 5.44% (283) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.85% (44) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.08% (4) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.92% (100) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 6.28% (327) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race was 3.0% (192) of the population.

The average household size was 2.1 and the average family size was 2.8.

19.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 28.3% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27.8 years. For every 100 females, the population had 96.3 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 93.9 males.

The racial makeup of the city was 87.8% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.6% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 5.1% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.8% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.6% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.1% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.9% from two or more races. The racial makeup of the city was 92.99% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.66% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 3.30% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.32% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.09% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.14% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.51% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.72% of the population.
