=== Twentieth century === In May 1922, the first [[Ku Klux Klan]] chapter was opened in Bentonville.<ref name=":1" /> By 1923, there was documentation of at least 162 men who were members of the Klan.<ref name=":1" /> Most of the town's most prominent citizens were charter members of the Klan chapters, including mayor [[Lee Seamster]], his successor Tom Curt, the Benton County sheriff and several deputies, and Circuit Judge William A.
