===The British–Portuguese army===
Wellington commanded six infantry [[Division (military)|division]]s, [[Charles Ashworth]]'s [[independent Portuguese brigade]], and three cavalry brigades. [[Brent Spencer]] commanded the [[History of the British 1st Division between 1809–1909|1st Division]], [[Thomas Picton]] the [[3rd Infantry Division (United Kingdom)|3rd]], [[Sir William Houston, 1st Baronet|William Houston]] the [[7th Infantry Division (United Kingdom)|7th]], and [[Robert Craufurd]], the [[Light Division (United Kingdom)|Light Division]]. [[Stapleton Cotton]] commanded [[Sir John Slade, 1st Baronet|John Slade]]'s and Frederick von Arentschildt's brigades of cavalry. Edward Howorth supervised four British ([[Ross' Troop|Ross RHA]], [[Bull's Troop|Bull RHA]], [[97 Battery (Lawson's Company) Royal Artillery|Lawson's RA]], [[46 (Talavera) Battery|Thompson's RA]]) and four Portuguese (Arentschildt (2), [[Da Cunha]], [[Rozierres]]) 6-gun batteries.
