Auburn is one of two principal cities of and included in the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine metropolitan [[New England city and town area]] and the [[Lewiston-Auburn, ME MSA|Lewiston-Auburn, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area]] (which is part of the [[Portland, Maine|Portland]]-Lewiston-[[South Portland, Maine|South Portland]], Maine [[combined statistical area]]).

The racial makeup of the city was 93.7% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.5% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.4% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.9% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.3% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.1% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.5% of the population.
