The Carter family's peanut business accumulated a $1&nbsp;million debt in 1981. Carter began writing books to pay off this debt. In 2013, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, their son Chip, and Chip's wife Becky traveled to the neighborhood of Queens Village in New York City.
