At the age of 15, Rice played a Mozart Piano Concerto with the [[Denver Symphony Orchestra]], her prize for winning a student music competition.<ref name=tommasini/> Until college, she planned to become a professional pianist and still plays with an amateur [[chamber music]] group in Washington.
