The President of Nicaragua, [[Daniel Ortega]], was presented with a plan to revitalize the city center. {{Citation needed|date=August 2012}} The project included the possibility of building a [[rapid transit|metro]] that would cross over the old center of the capital that remains rather unchanged since the 1972 earthquake. The metro would serve important locales, such as the [[Augusto C. Sandino International Airport]] and continue service to Ciudad Sandino.
