Gary is the hometown of the [[Jackson family]], a family of musicians who influenced the sound of modern [[popular music]]. In 1950, [[Joe Jackson (manager)|Joseph]] and [[Katherine Jackson]] moved from [[East Chicago, Indiana]]<ref>{{cite book|title=My Family, the Jacksons|last=Jackson|first=Katherine|publisher=[[St. Martin's Paperbacks]]|year=1990|isbn=0-312-92350-3|author2=Rich Wiseman}}</ref> into their two-bedroom house at 2300 Jackson Street.
