Since then they have enjoyed two notable cup runs (to the semi-finals of the [[FA Cup]] in 2001 and the [[Football League Cup]] in 2007), and four recent promotions from the fourth tier of the English league to the third tier (via the playoffs in 1994, and automatically in 2009, 2011 and 2018), plus promotion from the third tier to the second tier (Championship) via the playoffs in 2020. They have been managed by a number of high-profile football figures, including [[Martin O'Neill]], [[Lawrie Sanchez]], [[Tony Adams (footballer)|Tony Adams]], and [[Gareth Ainsworth]].
