School buses, which are much bigger than the average vehicle, allow for the mass transportation of students from place to place. The American School Bus Council states in a brief article: "The children are protected like eggs in an egg carton—compartmentalized, and surrounded with padding and structural integrity to secure the entire container." Although school buses are considered safe for mass transit of students, this will not guarantee that the students will be injury-free if an impact were to occur. Seat belts in buses are sometimes believed to make recovering from a roll or tip harder for passengers, as they could be easily trapped in their own safety belts.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.wonderopolis.org/wonder/why-arent-seat-belts-required-on-school-buses|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160127060005/http://www.americanschoolbuscouncil.org/school-bus-information-and-statistics/faq/why-dont-school-buses-have-seat-belts|url-status=dead|title=Why Aren't Seat Belts Required on School Buses? | Wonderopolis|archivedate=January 27, 2016|website=www.wonderopolis.org}}</ref> In 2015, for the first time, NHTSA endorsed seat belts on school buses.<ref>{{Cite web |url=http://www.autoblog.com/2015/11/10/seat-belts-school-buses-nhtsa-safety-parenting/ |title=NHTSA reverses course, now wants seat belts on school buses<!-- Bot generated title --> |access-date=2016-03-06 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160307013534/http://www.autoblog.com/2015/11/10/seat-belts-school-buses-nhtsa-safety-parenting/ |archive-date=2016-03-07 |url-status=dead }}</ref> ====Motor coaches==== In the European Union, all new long-distance buses and coaches must be fitted with seat belts.<ref>{{cite web |url= http://www.epha.org/a/1765 |title=EU law makes seat belts obligatory in long distance buses and coaches |date=2006-07-19 |publisher=European Public Health Alliance |access-date=6 January 2010 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20100114181435/http://www.epha.org/a/1765 |archive-date=14 January 2010 |url-status=dead }}</ref> Australia has required lap/sash seat belts in new coaches since 1994.
