====Foreign direct investment==== To encourage foreign trade and investment, the Ukrainian parliament approved a [[foreign direct investment|foreign investment]] law allowing foreigners to purchase businesses and property, to repatriate revenue and profits, and to receive compensation if the property is nationalised by a future government. Complex laws and regulations, poor [[corporate governance]], weak enforcement of contract law by courts, and corruption, continued to prevent direct large-scale foreign investment in Ukraine. These include companies in agriculture, such as [[Kyiv-Atlantic Group]], founded in 1994 by David Sweere. He sold its business in Minnesota and invested in Ukraine, believing in its huge potential. The company has been operating at a profit since 2002.
