Taking effect on 1 August 2010, the Convention on Cluster Munitions<ref>[http://www.clusterconvention.org/pages/pages_ii/iia_textenglish.html Convention on cluster munitions – convention text in English] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100819162338/http://www.clusterconvention.org/pages/pages_ii/iia_textenglish.html |date=August 19, 2010 }}</ref> bans the stockpiling, use and transfer of virtually all existing cluster bombs and provides for the clearing up of unexploded munitions. The Convention on Cluster Munitions entered into force on 1 August 2010, six months after it was ratified by 30 states.
