The facility was mainly used for hosting sporting activities, such as the [[Somalia Cup]] and for [[Association football|football]] matches with teams from the [[Somalia League]]. Presidential addresses and political rallies, among other events, were also held there.<ref name="Drproc">''Daily report: People's Republic of China'', Issues 53β61, (National Technical Information Service: 1986)</ref> In September 2013, the Somali federal government and its Chinese counterpart signed an official cooperation agreement in Mogadishu as part of a five-year national recovery plan in Somalia. The pact will see the Chinese authorities reconstruct several major infrastructural landmarks, including the Mogadishu Stadium.<ref name="Sgcosca"/> The [[Banadir Stadium]] and Konis Stadium are two other major sporting facilities in the capital. In 2013, the [[Somali Football Federation]] launched a renovation project at the Konis facility, during which artificial football turf contributed by FIFA was installed at the stadium.
