==Healthcare==
Marrakesh has long been an important centre for healthcare in [[Morocco]], and the regional rural and urban populations alike are reliant upon hospitals in the city. The psychiatric hospital installed by the Almohad caliph [[Ya'qub al-Mansur]] in the 12th century{{Sfn|Bennison|2016|p=152}} was described by contemporary historian [['Abd al-Wahid al-Marrakushi|'Abd al-Wahfd al-Marrakushi]] as one of the greatest in the world at the time.{{sfn|Laet|1994|p=|pp=861–862}}<!-- There seems to be an error in Laet's cited text: Ya'qub al-Mansur is described as "Merenid" even though he is a well-known Almohad ruler (and the rest of the paragraph is discussing the Almohad period as well). Seven new buildings were constructed, with a total floor area of {{convert|43,000|m2}}. New radiotherapy and medical equipment was provided and {{convert|29,000|m2}} of existing hospital space was rehabilitated.<ref name="OFID"/>
