In recent years, Kent State has developed extensive services to support people with autism, with many of its programs nationally recognized in different areas. Non-autistic students who wish to be involved with these activities are paired with students with autism, and one [[Fraternities and sororities|sorority]] is directly involved with these services. In a 2018 story, the university's autism outreach coordinator told ''[[The Plain Dealer]]'' of [[Cleveland]] that about 30 autistic students were registered as such with the university, but estimated that close to 500 students with autism used the school's services.
