[[Islam in Bangladesh|Islam]] is the dominant religion of the city, with 19.3 million of the city's population being Muslim, and a majority belonging to the [[Sunni]] sect. There is also a small [[Shia]] sect, and an [[Ahmadi]]ya community. [[Hinduism in Bangladesh|Hinduism]] is the second-largest religion numbering around 1.47 million adherents. Smaller segments represent 1% and practise [[Christianity in Bangladesh|Christianity]] and [[Buddhism in Bangladesh|Buddhism]].
