[[Experiential travel]] (or "immersion travel") is one of the major market trends in the modern tourism industry. The term "experiential travel" has been mentioned in publications since 1985,<ref>{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=o_QJAQAAMAAJ&q=%22experiential+travel%22|title=Insights in Strategic Retail Management|access-date=9 June 2015|isbn=9780861762378|last1=Gattorna|first1=John|year=1985|publisher=MCB University Press }}</ref> but it was not discovered as a meaningful market trend until much later.
