It is named in honor of retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice [[Sandra Day O'Connor]], who was raised in Arizona.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.azd.uscourts.gov/locations/phoenix |title=Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse |publisher=United States District Court, District of Arizona |access-date=April 4, 2014}}</ref> The Federal Building is at the intersection of Van Buren Street and First Avenue downtown.
