Lancaster died at his apartment in [[Century City]], Los Angeles, after having a third heart attack at 4:50 am on October 20, 1994.<ref>{{cite news | title = Oscar Winner Burt Lancaster Dies at 80 | url = https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-10-22-mn-56956-story.html | date = October 24, 1994 | newspaper = [[Los Angeles Times]] | access-date = October 18, 2017}}</ref> His body was cremated, and his ashes were scattered under a large oak tree in [[Westwood Memorial Park]], which is located in [[Westwood Village]], California. A small, square ground plaque amid several others, inscribed "Burt Lancaster 1913–1994", marks the location. As he had requested, no memorial or funeral service was held for him.
