The Quran attributes its relationship with former books (the [[Torah]] and the [[Gospel]]s) to their unique origin, saying all of them have been revealed by the one God.<ref>{{qref|2|285|b=y}}</ref>

[[Adam]], [[Enoch]], [[Noah]], [[Hud (prophet)|Eber]], [[Shelah (son of Judah)|Shelah]], [[Abraham]], [[Lot (biblical person)|Lot]], [[Ishmael]], [[Isaac]], [[Jacob]], [[Joseph (Genesis)|Joseph]], [[Job (biblical figure)|Job]], [[Jethro (biblical figure)|Jethro]], [[David]], [[Solomon]], [[Elijah]], [[Elisha]], [[Jonah]], [[Aaron]], [[Moses]], [[Zechariah (New Testament figure)|Zechariah]], [[John the Baptist]] and [[Jesus]] are mentioned in the Quran as prophets of God (see [[Prophets and messengers in Islam|Prophets of Islam]]).
