==Geography==
Located at the center of Mendocino County in the Little Lake Valley, Willits is {{convert|23|mi}} north of [[Ukiah, California|Ukiah]] and the same distance south of [[Laytonville, California|Laytonville]] on [[U.S. Route 101 in California|U.S. Route 101]] (otherwise known as the [[Redwood Highway]]). It is on the west side of the Little Lake Valley, a {{convert|6|by|3|mi|adj=on|0}} area surrounded by the [[California Coast Ranges]].

The mountains to the west along with a significant influence of mild [[Pacific Ocean|Pacific]] air cause Willits to have a cool winter and hot day/cool night summer climate. Average January temperatures range from {{convert|32|to|55|°F|°C|abbr=on}}. Average July temperatures range from {{convert|47|to|85|°F|°C|abbr=on}}. There are an average of 26.9 days with highs of {{convert|90|F|C}} or higher, and an average of 95.1 days with lows of {{convert|32|F|C}} or lower. The record maximum temperature was {{convert|112|°F|°C|abbr=on}} on July 24, 1902, and the record minimum temperature was {{convert|5|°F|°C|abbr=on}} on December 9, 1972.<ref name = NOWData/>
