===Municipal history===
The city of Trondheim was established on 1 January 1838 (see [[formannskapsdistrikt]] law). On 1 January 1864, part of [[Strinda Municipality]] (population: 1,229) was amalgamated with Trondheim. Then, on 1 January 1893, another part of Strinda Municipality (population: 4,097) was transferred to Trondheim Municipality. On 1 January 1952, the [[Lade, Trondheim|Lade]] area of Strinda Municipality (population: 2,230) was transferred to Trondheim Municipality.
