New Zealand has a state highway network of {{convert|10895|km|mi|abbr=on}} ({{convert|5974|km|mi|abbr=on}} in the North Island and {{convert|4921|km|mi|abbr=on}} in the South Island, as of August 2006) of which {{convert|170|km|mi|abbr=on}} are motorways. These link to {{convert|82000|km|mi|abbr=on}} of local authority roads, both paved and unpaved.
