===Accusation of plagiarism===
In [[Lisa Rogak]]'s [[unauthorized biography]] ''Haunted Heart: The Life and Times of Stephen King'', a friend and college roommate of King's, George MacLeod, claimed that King had cribbed the idea for ''The Body'' from a short story MacLeod had been working on,<ref name="hendrix">{{cite web|last=Hendrix|first=Grady|authorlink=Grady Hendrix|title=The Great Stephen King Reread: Different Seasons|url=https://www.tor.com/2013/01/10/the-great-stephen-king-reread-different-seasons/|work=[[Tor.com]]|date=January 10, 2013|access-date=August 9, 2021}}</ref> but these claims are disputed by King. MacLeod’s story was written from an experience he had as a child. His father had told him about a dead dog he had spotted on railroad tracks, prompting MacLeod and his friends to go looking for “the body” one day after school.
