==Geography==
Tannersville is located in southern Greene County at {{coord|42|11|37|N|74|8|20|W|type:city}} (42.193619, -74.139011),<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|accessdate=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> in the northern part of the town of Hunter. It is situated at an elevation of {{convert|1900|ft}} in the [[Catskill Mountains]] just west of the height of land on [[New York State Route 23A]]: Sawmill Creek flows southwest through the center of the village into Gooseberry Creek and thence into [[Schoharie Creek]], a north-flowing tributary of the [[Mohawk River]], while just {{convert|2|mi|0}} to the east, at [[Haines Falls, New York|Haines Falls]], [[Kaaterskill Creek]] drops east into [[Kaaterskill Clove]] and thence into the [[Hudson River]] valley.

NY 23A is Tannersville's Main Street, leading east {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Catskill (village), New York|Catskill]] and west {{convert|4|mi|0}} to [[Hunter (village), New York|Hunter village]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Tannersville has a total area of {{convert|3.1|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|3.0|km2|order=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.1|km2|order=flip|2}}, or 2.73%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>
