==Geography== Stallings is in northwestern Union County, with a few small portions extending into Mecklenburg County to the northwest. It is bordered to the northwest by the town of [[Matthews, North Carolina|Matthews]] and to the southeast by the towns of [[Indian Trail, North Carolina|Indian Trail]] and [[Hemby Bridge, North Carolina|Hemby Bridge]]. The city of [[Charlotte, North Carolina|Charlotte]] borders the southwestern end of the town, and the town of [[Mint Hill, North Carolina|Mint Hill]] is close to the northwest. [[U.S. Route 74]] crosses Stallings to the northeast of the original town center, leading northwest {{convert|13|mi}} to [[Uptown Charlotte]] and southeast {{convert|11|mi|0}} to [[Monroe, North Carolina|Monroe]]. [[Interstate 485]], the Charlotte Outerbelt, passes through Matthews just northwest of the Stallings border. According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the town of Stallings has a total area of {{convert|8.5|sqmi|1}}, of which {{convert|0.065|sqmi|3}}, or 0.76%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2024"/> Most of the town drains to the east into tributaries of Crooked Creek, part of the [[Rocky River (North Carolina)|Rocky River]] watershed leading to the [[Pee Dee River]]. The southwest end of the town drains south toward Twelvemile Creek, a tributary of the [[Catawba River]].
