At the [[2000 United States Census|2000 census]] there were 2,521 people, 990 households, and 767 families living in the town. The population density was {{convert|393.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,049 housing units at an average density of {{convert|163.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States Census#2000 census|racial makeup]] of the town was 90.56% White, 7.74% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, and 1.11% from two or more races. 0.24% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.<ref name="GR2">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|accessdate=January 31, 2008|title=U.S. Census website}}</ref>
