Richmond was located in the eponymous district of [[Richmondshire]], created under the [[Local Government Act 1972]] by a merger of the municipal borough of Richmond with the [[rural district]]s of Richmond, Aysgarth, Leyburn, Reeth, and part of Croft. Richmondshire was abolished in 2023, it is now administered by the unitary [[North Yorkshire Council]].
