===The success of the 1980s=== The team finished as runners-up in La Liga for the first time in [[1979–80 La Liga|1979–80]], gaining 52 points compared to [[Real Madrid C.F.|Real Madrid]]'s 53, and 13 points clear of third-placed [[Sporting de Gijón]].
