In [[Kiribati]], the Attorney-General is defined by section 42 of the Constitution as "the principal legal adviser to the Government."<ref name="Publications">{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=lsnRCQAAQBAJ&pg=PA71|title=Kiribati Foreign Policy and Government Guide|last=Publications|first=USA International Business|date=2015-06-08|publisher=Int'l Business Publications|isbn=9781433027680|language=en}}</ref> The Constitution specifies: "No person shall be qualified to hold or to act in the office of Attorney-General unless he is qualified to practise in Kiribati as an advocate in the High Court."

The Attorney-General of Kiribati<ref name="Publications"/> was also until October 2016 a member of [[Cabinet of Kiribati]] and a member of the [[House of Assembly (Kiribati)|Maneaba ni Maungatabu]] as an ex-officio member of parliament.
