As of the [[census]] of 2000, there were 2,596 people, 484 households, and 378 families residing in the town. There were 514 housing units at an average density of {{convert|24.4|/km2|/mi2|disp=preunit|units|units|abbr=on}}. The racial makeup of the town was 81.93% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 4.93% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.27% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.08% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 11.48% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.31% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 62.44% of the population.
