He was then promoted to the Class AA [[Williamsport Mets]] of the [[Eastern League (1938–2020)|Eastern League]], where he was 0–2 with a 0.95 ERA, striking out 35 batters in 19 innings. Overall, Ryan had 307 strikeouts in 202 minor league innings in 1966, earning a late-season call-up to the [[New York Mets]].<ref name="baseball-reference.com1"/> In 1967, Ryan pitched three games in relief for the Class AAA [[Jacksonville Suns]], started one game for the Class A [[Winter Haven Mets]] and pitched eight games for the Mets team in the Florida Instructional League.
