The Nenets language is on the Samoyedic branch of the Uralic language family, with two major dialects, Forest Nenets and Tundra Nenets.<ref>{{cite web |title=Nenets: A language of Russian Federation |url=https://www.ethnologue.com/language/yrk|website=Ethnologue: Languages of the World |publisher=Ethnologue |access-date=23 November 2015}}</ref> Ethnologue says that in [[Siberia]], most young people are still fluent in Nenets, whereas in [[European Russia]], they tend to speak Russian. Overall, the majority of native speakers are from older generations.
