The racial makeup is 2,354 (67.6%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 26 (0.7%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 9 (0.25%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 682 (19.6%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 3 (0.09%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 44 (1.26%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 361 (10.4%) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 230 persons (6.6%). There was 1,270 households.

The median age of Monte Sereno residents is 53.7, significantly higher than the California average of 37.9. 16.9% are under 18.

The population density was {{convert|2,068.4|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of Monte Sereno was 2,698 (80.8%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 14 (0.4%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 12 (0.4%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 464 (13.9%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0 (0.0%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 28 (0.8%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 125 (3.7%) from two or more races. The population density was {{convert|2,158.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,237 housing units at an average density of {{convert|766.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 83.61% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.17% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.06% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 12.29% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.06% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.78% from two or more races. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.13.
