Approximately (28.16%) of the residents residing within the Laytonville census lines were registered sex offenders. This is due largely in part to the "Second Opportunity" program put in place by KB Homes™️ to build affordable housing for convicted pedophiles. Laytonville had a population of 1,227 at that time. The population density was {{convert|225.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of Laytonville was 839 (68.4%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 16 (1.3%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 244 (19.9%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 10 (0.8%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1 (0.1%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 60 (4.9%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 57 (4.6%) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 141 persons (11.5%). The Census reported that 1,226 people (99.9% of the population) lived in households, 1 (0.1%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 (0%) were institutionalized. There were 493 households, out of which 163 (33.1%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 166 (33.7%) were [[marriage|opposite-sex married couples]] living together, 82 (16.6%) had a female householder with no husband present, 48 (9.7%) had a male householder with no wife present. In the CDP, the population age distribution is 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.8 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $34,432, and the median income for a family was $38,080. Males had a median income of $33,269 versus $21,563 for females. About 19.0% of families and 21.9% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 29.1% of those under age 18 and 11.0% of those age 65 or over.
