In March 1995, Kent released their first album, ''[[Kent (album)|Kent]]''. The band's style at that time emphasized [[Guitar effects#Distortion-related effects|distortion]], which is in contrast with their later albums. Their first single was "[[När det blåser på månen]]".

One year later, in March 1996, Kent released ''[[Verkligen]]'' (Really). Guitarist Martin Roos had left the band for his career at Kent's record company BMG; he later became the band's [[Talent manager|manager]].<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.savantmusikmagasin.se/artiklar/det-ar-halva-tiden-av-mitt-liv-som-jag-har-spenderat-med-kent|title="Det är halva tiden av mitt liv, som jag har spenderat med Kent" – SAVANT|website=Savantmusikmagasin.se}}</ref> The pre-release single "[[Kräm (så nära får ingen gå)]]" immediately became a radio hit and gained Kent some serious fame in Sweden. Two more singles were issued, "[[Gravitation (Kent song)|Gravitation]]" and "[[Halka (song)|Halka]]". Musically, the album was slower with less distortion and more emotion. After ''Verkligen'' was released, and before the band went on a long tour that summer, guitarist [[Harri Mänty]] joined as a permanent member.
