==={{translit|ja|Kyōiku}} kanji=== {{Main|Kyōiku kanji}} The {{Nihongo||教育漢字|kyōiku kanji|{{abbr|lit.|literally}} "education kanji"}} are the 1,026 first kanji characters that Japanese children learn in elementary school, from first grade to sixth grade. The grade-level breakdown is known as the {{Nihongo||[[学年別漢字配当表]]|gakunen-betsu kanji haitōhyō}}, or the {{nihongo||学習漢字|gakushū kanji}}. This list of kanji is maintained by the [[Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Japan)|Japanese Ministry of Education]] and prescribes which kanji characters and which kanji readings students should learn for each grade.
