The [[population density]] was {{convert|4059.0|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 11,647 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1863.5|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 73.2% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 20.5% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.3% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.6% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.1% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.7% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 3.6% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.6% of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 67.51% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 28.7% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.41% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 3.42% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.01% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.74% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.76% from two or more races.
