If the controllers are SNA connected, they appear to SNA as PU β Physical Unit type 2.0 (PU2.1 for APPN) nodes typically with LU β Logical Unit type 1, 2, and 3 devices connected. Local, channel attached, controllers are controlled by [[Virtual Telecommunications Access Method|VTAM β Virtual Telecommunications Access Method]]. Remote controllers are controlled by the NCP β Network Control Program in the [[Front-end processor|Front End Processor]] i.e. [[IBM 3705 Communications Controller|3705]], [[IBM 3720|3720]], [[IBM 37xx|3725]], [[IBM 3745|3745]], and VTAM.
