== Geography == Hood River is at the confluence of the Hood River and the Columbia River in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. The city is about 30 mi north of Mount Hood, the tallest peak in the state. It is across the Columbia River from White Salmon, Washington. South of the city is the Hood River Valley, known for its production of apples, pears, and cherries. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.35 sqmi, of which 2.55 sqmi is land and 0.80 sqmi is water. ===Climate=== Located at the transition zone between wet temperate rainforest to the west, and dry shrub-steppe desert to the east, Hood River has a moderate climate with rainy winters and warm summers (Köppen: Csb), although rainfall there is somewhat less than Portland and other nearby areas in the Willamette Valley. Hood River averages around 30 in of precipitation a year, while Cascade Locks, 20 mi west, receives over 75 in, and The Dalles, 20 mi east, less than 15 in. The area is known for its consistently high winds channeling down the Columbia River Gorge. Temperatures for the year as a whole are slightly cooler than in most other low-elevation towns in the region, especially at night because of air drainage off the surrounding mountains. {{Weather box |location=Hood River, Oregon (1991–2020 normals, extremes 1893–present) |single line=true | Jan record high F = 65 | Feb record high F = 69 | Mar record high F = 81 | Apr record high F = 91 | May record high F = 102 | Jun record high F = 111 | Jul record high F = 107 | Aug record high F = 108 | Sep record high F = 101 | Oct record high F = 89 | Nov record high F = 73 | Dec record high F = 68 | year record high F = 111 | Jan avg record high F = 55.6 | Feb avg record high F = 58.4 | Mar avg record high F = 68.0 | Apr avg record high F = 78.3 | May avg record high F = 87.4 | Jun avg record high F = 93.4 | Jul avg record high F = 99.0 | Aug avg record high F = 98.9 | Sep avg record high F = 92.3 | Oct avg record high F = 78.0 | Nov avg record high F = 63.4 | Dec avg record high F = 54.3 | year avg record high F = 101.1 |Jan high F=40.8 |Feb high F=46.2 |Mar high F=53.3 |Apr high F=60.0 |May high F=68.4 |Jun high F=73.6 |Jul high F=81.7 |Aug high F=82.4 |Sep high F=75.9 |Oct high F=62.8 |Nov high F=48.6 |Dec high F=40.2 |year high F=61.2 |Jan mean F=35.6 |Feb mean F=38.7 |Mar mean F=43.9 |Apr mean F=49.6 |May mean F=57.0 |Jun mean F=62.3 |Jul mean F=68.6 |Aug mean F=68.5 |Sep mean F=61.6 |Oct mean F=50.9 |Nov mean F=41.4 |Dec mean F=35.4 |year mean F=51.1 |Jan low F=30.4 |Feb low F=31.2 |Mar low F=34.5 |Apr low F=39.2 |May low F=45.6 |Jun low F=51.1 |Jul low F=55.5 |Aug low F=54.7 |Sep low F=47.3 |Oct low F=39.1 |Nov low F=34.3 |Dec low F=30.6 |year low F=41.1 | Jan avg record low F = 17.2 | Feb avg record low F = 19.3 | Mar avg record low F = 24.8 | Apr avg record low F = 29.6 | May avg record low F = 33.9 | Jun avg record low F = 40.2 | Jul avg record low F = 45.5 | Aug avg record low F = 43.3 | Sep avg record low F = 35.8 | Oct avg record low F = 26.2 | Nov avg record low F = 21.4 | Dec avg record low F = 19.6 | year avg record low F = 10.8 | Jan record low F = −12 | Feb record low F = −10 | Mar record low F = 9 | Apr record low F = 22 | May record low F = 26 | Jun record low F = 32 | Jul record low F = 35 | Aug record low F = 35 | Sep record low F = 24 | Oct record low F = 15 | Nov record low F = -5 | Dec record low F = -6 |Jan precipitation inch=5.23 |Feb precipitation inch=3.51 |Mar precipitation inch=3.18 |Apr precipitation inch=1.84 |May precipitation inch=1.32 |Jun precipitation inch=0.82 |Jul precipitation inch=0.24 |Aug precipitation inch=0.24 |Sep precipitation inch=0.71 |Oct precipitation inch=2.64 |Nov precipitation inch=4.83 |Dec precipitation inch=5.86 |year precipitation inch=30.42 |Jan snow inch=6.9 |Feb snow inch=2.5 |Mar snow inch=0.7 |Apr snow inch=0.0 |May snow inch=0.0 |Jun snow inch=0.0 |Jul snow inch=0.0 |Aug snow inch=0.0 |Sep snow inch=0.0 |Oct snow inch=0.1 |Nov snow inch=1.5 |Dec snow inch=5.5 |year snow inch=17.2 |unit precipitation days = 0.01 in |Jan precipitation days = 18.6 |Feb precipitation days = 15.0 |Mar precipitation days = 15.3 |Apr precipitation days = 12.9 |May precipitation days = 8.7 |Jun precipitation days = 5.5 |Jul precipitation days = 1.5 |Aug precipitation days = 1.9 |Sep precipitation days = 3.9 |Oct precipitation days = 11.2 |Nov precipitation days = 17.9 |Dec precipitation days = 19.2 |precipitation colour=green | unit snow days = 0.1 in | Jul snow days = 0.0 | Aug snow days = 0.0 | Sep snow days = 0.0 | Oct snow days = 0.0 | Nov snow days = 1.0 | Dec snow days = 3.6 | Jan snow days = 3.3 | Feb snow days = 1.4 | Mar snow days = 0.3 | Apr snow days = 0.0 | May snow days = 0.0 | Jun snow days = 0.0 | Jan uv =1 | Feb uv =1 | Mar uv =2 | Apr uv =3 | May uv =4 | Jun uv =5 | Jul uv =6 | Aug uv =4 | Sep uv =3 | Oct uv =3 | Nov uv =1 | Dec uv =2 | year uv = |source 1 = NOAA |source 2 = Weather Atlas (UV and humidity) }}
