==History== The 1780 settlement was originally known as "Glover's Station", for local landowner John Glover, who received {{convert|193|acre|km2}} in the area as a military grant after the [[American Revolutionary War|American Revolution]].<ref name=ren/> Following the establishment of Green County (named for Revolutionary War [[General officers in the United States#American Revolutionary War|Maj. General]] [[Nathanael Greene]]<ref name=ren>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=3Lac2FUSj_oC&pg=PA125 | title=Kentucky Place Names | publisher=University Press of Kentucky | date=1987 | access-date=28 April 2013 | author=Rennick, Robert M. | pages=125}}</ref>) from parts of [[Lincoln County, Kentucky|Lincoln]] and [[Nelson County, Kentucky|Nelson]] [[list of Kentucky counties|counties]] in 1792, Greensburg was laid out and established two years later as its eponymous seat of government.<ref>Commonwealth of Kentucky. Accessed 28 July 2013.</ref> It was incorporated as a city a year after that.<ref name=ren/> The central Public Square was also laid out in 1795 and has been retained as designed since then, with the only changes being the paving of the square with concrete and the installation of concrete dividers in the four quadrants.<ref>MRA NRHP.
