== Climate == Situated near the Tropic of Capricorn, Mauritius has a tropical climate. There are 2 seasons: a warm humid summer from November to April, with a mean temperature of 24.7 C and a cooler dry winter from June to September with a mean temperature of 20.4 C. The temperature difference between the seasons is only <!--Please don't user convert template to describe a range-->4.3nbsp°C (7.7nbsp°F). The warmest months are January and February with average day maximum temperature reaching 29.2 C and the coolest months are July and August with average overnight minimum temperatures of 16.4 C. Annual rainfall ranges from 900 mm on the coast to 1500 mm on the central plateau. Although there is no marked rainy season, most of the rainfall occurs in the summer months. Sea temperature in the lagoon varies from . The central plateau is much cooler than the surrounding coastal areas and can experience as much as twice the rainfall. The prevailing trade winds keep the east side of the island cooler and bring more rain. Occasional tropical cyclones generally occur between January and March and tend to disrupt the weather for about three days, bringing heavy rain. Anticyclones affect the country during May to September. Hollanda (1994) and Dina (2002) were the worst two recent cyclones to have affected the island. {{Weather box | location = Port Louis | metric first = yes | single line = yes | Jan record high C = 35 | Feb record high C = 33 | Mar record high C = 32 | Apr record high C = 31 | May record high C = 29 | Jun record high C = 28 | Jul record high C = 27 | Aug record high C = 27 | Sep record high C = 28 | Oct record high C = 31 | Nov record high C = 33 | Dec record high C = 35 | year record high C = 35 | Jan high C = 31.5 | Feb high C = 31.4 | Mar high C = 31.5 | Apr high C = 30.7 | May high C = 29.3 | Jun high C = 27.6 | Jul high C = 26.7 | Aug high C = 26.8 | Sep high C = 27.7 | Oct high C = 28.8 | Nov high C = 30.2 | Dec high C = 31.1 | year high C = | Jan low C = 24.1 | Feb low C = 24.0 | Mar low C = 23.8 | Apr low C = 23.0 | May low C = 21.5 | Jun low C = 19.9 | Jul low C = 19.3 | Aug low C = 19.1 | Sep low C = 19.4 | Oct low C = 20.4 | Nov low C = 21.8 | Dec low C = 23.2 | year low C = | Jan record low C = 17 | Feb record low C = 18 | Mar record low C = 17 | Apr record low C = 14 | May record low C = 13 | Jun record low C = 11 | Jul record low C = 11 | Aug record low C = 10 | Sep record low C = 11 | Oct record low C = 13 | Nov record low C = 14 | Dec record low C = 17 | year record low C = 10 | Jan rain mm = 131 | Feb rain mm = 160 | Mar rain mm = 83 | Apr rain mm = 87 | May rain mm = 48 | Jun rain mm = 24 | Jul rain mm = 18 | Aug rain mm = 19 | Sep rain mm = 17 | Oct rain mm = 15 | Nov rain mm = 24 | Dec rain mm = 85 | rain colour = green | unit rain days = 1.0 mm | Jan rain days = 9 | Feb rain days = 10 | Mar rain days = 8 | Apr rain days = 7 | May rain days = 6 | Jun rain days = 4 | Jul rain days = 4 | Aug rain days = 5 | Sep rain days = 3 | Oct rain days = 3 | Nov rain days = 3 | Dec rain days = 6 | year rain days = | Jan sun = 248 | Feb sun = 226 | Mar sun = 217 | Apr sun = 240 | May sun = 248 | Jun sun = 210 | Jul sun = 217 | Aug sun = 217 | Sep sun = 240 | Oct sun = 279 | Nov sun = 270 | Dec sun = 279 | year sun = | source 1 = World Meteorological Organization.<ref name="WMO">World Weather Information Service-Port Louis, World Meteorological Organization.
