The population density was 4,185.9 per square mile (1,615.9/km{{sup|2}}). There were 21,769 housing units at an average density of 1,734.6 per square mile (669.6/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 46.34% (24,345) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 44.79% (23,529) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 0.24% (125) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.01% (530) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% (14) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.5% (790) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 6.09% (3,200) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 1.49% of the population.
