==Government== The city has a mayor-council form of elected government. Five council members are elected [[at-large]], in non-partisan post, and the mayor is elected at-large in a non-partisan race.<ref name="joyner"/> In 2015 Ed Johnson was elected mayor, the first African American to serve in the position. The retired US Naval Commander and pastor of Fayette County's oldest black church is described as a consensus builder.
