The former harbour has silted up as well. Hardly any excavation has been done here. After the founding of the ''Neapolis'', the old city seems to have functioned as an [[acropolis]] (fortress and temple). [[Strabo]] mentions a temple dedicated to [[Artemis]] at this site.
