The pupils are horizontal and the irises golden.<ref name="BurrowingFrogAustralianMuseum" /> The toes have a fleshy webbing at their base,<ref name="Robinson1998" /> and the fingers are free of webbing.<ref name="Cameron2009" /> Typically, juvenile cane toads have smooth, dark skin, although some specimens have a red wash.
