Ahitophel's betrayal of David and subsequent suicide are seen as anticipating Judas' betrayal of [[Jesus]], and the gospels' account of Judas hanging himself ([[Matthew 27:5]]). [[Psalm 41|Psalm 41:9]], which seems to refer to Ahitophel,<ref>[http://biblehub.com/commentaries/pulpit/2_samuel/17.htm Pulpit Commentary] on 2 Samuel 17: "Here Ahitophel is almost certainly intended"</ref> is quoted in [[Gospel of John|John]] 13:18 as being fulfilled in Judas.<ref>[[Eugen J.
