The population density was 16.5 people per square mile (6.4/km<sup>2</sup>). There were 964 housing units at an average density of 15.6/sq&nbsp;mi (6.0/km<sup>2</sup>). The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States Census#2000 census|racial makeup]] of the township was 99.71% White, 0.10% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.10% from other races. Of the 435 households 23.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% were non-families. 27.4% of households were one person and 14.7% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.78.

The age distribution was 19.9% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% 65 or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 105.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.6 males.

The median household income was $29,792 and the median family income was $33,654. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $19,688 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,889. About 11.1% of families and 14.3% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 13.5% of those under age 18 and 18.8% of those age 65 or over.
